A former Boy Scout retreat on the Cumberland River catches a new flame.

From camp cabin to a family lake home, this residence is A Perfect Blend of Charm and function

With a careful touch and an eye for design, this once-compact cabin has blossomed into a timely home, all while retaining its original charm.

Let's take a journey through the metamorphosis of this renovation that beautifully marries nostalgia with modern living.

The allure of a cabin lies in its cozy intimacy and raw materials. As the Owners embarked on this renovation journey, the first priority was to maintain the cabins distinctive charm - that meant minimizing drywall.

The overall form was lovingly preserved, along with wood fireplaces and stone exterior walls. The existing home was load-bearing stone exterior walls, so engineering new floors at the interior and adding insulation was a must! With a simple gable addition to the rear, and a eave raise towards the river, we able to make this addition feel timeless and intentional. The cabins essence was not only retained but celebrated.

Crafting Meaningful Spaces

One of the greatest challenges of this transformation was in retaining the old bones as much as possible. Through meticulous planning and a hope to meet the home owner's expectations, Brent Hunter with ArchiNerd managed to seamlessly integrate a split-level children's wing into the Great Room. The tasteful extension, complete with an integrated kitchen + dining area, adjacent to the existing Great Room, was seamlessly connected to the wood fireplace in the Great Room. This connection was done by aligning the stone arch of the existing fireplace on axis to the new kitchen stone arch, making the interior flow feel effortless and connected.

We always design elements to be multi-functional and timeless!
